a) 11.02.16 - DLSA Nadia district had been able to rescue a child labour aged about 13 years from a Tyre Business Centre at Nadia with the help of a Para Legal volunteer namely Subhash Chandra Rudra when he was on field duty. The child was given in the custody of CHILDLINE and was presented before the Child Welfare Committee, Nadia. The custody of the child was given to the father and he was ordered to deposit Rs.20000/- in the Account of Child Labour Rehabilitation cum Welfare Fund Nadia in compliance with the direction of the Supreme Court of India.

b) 27.7.16 – Pursuant to a newspaper report regarding acid attack upon a woman named Jyotsna Malik in the night of 24.7.16 at her house in Piasara under Tarakeswar P.S. under Hooghly district, the DLSA Hooghly suo motu starting a Victim Compensation case, had taken up the matter with the District Magistrate and had been able to arrange for free medical checkup of the victim though unfortunately the victim expired on 30.07.16. Thereafter, with the active assistance and monitoring of the DLSA Hooghly, the administration provided an interim compensation to the tune of Rs.3 lakhs to the family of the deceased which was given to the victim’s family through an account transfer and here also the DLSA facilitated the deposit by opening a bank account in the name of the beneficiary with the assistance of an active PLV functioning under him.

c) A resident of Ireland, Mr. Stephen McMahon came to Pondicherry, India for treatment in the year 2015 and thereafter upon a tour of Kolkata, he accidentally fell into the River Ganges. He was recovered by the police but after they came to know of his identity, he was arrested under the Foreigners Act and also under The Official Secrets Act. As he had no Advocate of his own, he was provided with a panel lawyer from the District Legal services Authority, Kolkata. The lawyer represented the Irish person and through his assistance, the Irish individual was proved not guilty of the charges as there were no sufficient material to convict him.

d) child marriage was prevented by the active intervention of District Legal Services Authority, South Dinajpur.

The PLVs associated with the said DLSA, Smt. Sanchita Karmakar deputed in the B.D.O. Office Bansihari and Mijanur Rahman deputed at Kumarganj Police Station had done a commendable job in preventing the marriage of a child aged about about 13 years residing inthe Allahabad Gram Panchayat area.

e) DLSA Hooghly took an active stand in helping the family of an acid attack victim named Jyotsna Malik residing under Tarakeshwar P.S. suo motu upon being aware of teh incident reported in Anandabazar patrika on 27.07.16.Though the victim succumbed to her injuries, DLSA Hooghly had been firm in its stand in facilitating the victim compensation award of Rs.300000/- to the victim's family from the Govt. administration and had also helped the victim's son to open a bank account in his name where the amount had been deposited.
